Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has expressed concern over the persistent claims that the Ghanaian national team is cursed. He believes these unfounded allegations can negatively impact the mental state of players and hinder their performance on the field.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola, Addo emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset among the players. “It’s crucial that we create a supportive environment for our players,” he said. “Negative narratives like the ‘curse’ can create unnecessary pressure and doubt, which can affect their confidence and performance.”
Ghana’s recent record in major tournaments has been a source of frustration for fans, with the team failing to progress beyond the group stage in the last few AFCONs and World Cups. These disappointing results have fueled speculation about a supposed curse hanging over the team.
However, Addo dismissed these claims as unfounded. According to Otto Addo the team has faced challenges in recent years, but that’s normal in football. There is the need to focus on the present and work hard to achieve their goals.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F after playing four games in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, behind Angola and Sudan. Ghana are on the brink of missing out on the AFCON tournament.
