The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Honourable Andrew Agyapa Mercer has officially commissioned a new Wall of Fame at Sekondi, a historic coastal town in Ghana. The wall honors the significant contributions of notable individuals from the region to the country’s cultural and historical heritage.
The Wall of Fame features portraits and biographies of prominent figures from Sekondi, including musicians, athletes, politicians, and community leaders.
They include Paapa Yankson, Nana Bosompra, Charles K. Mann, Jewel Ackah, Alfred Benjamin Crentsil, Ebo Taylor and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, who were all musicians.
The rest are Felicia Ewuraesi Abban, a photographer, and Kwaw Ansa, also a creative artist.
During the commissioning ceremony, the Minister emphasized the importance of preserving Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and recognizing the achievements of its citizens.
Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, emphasised the importance of paying tribute to Ghana’s highlife music icons during the ceremonial commissioning of the Creative Arts Wall of Fame in Duawusu. He underlined that presenting these well-known musicians will increase local revenue in addition to drawing more tourists to the area.
“Duawusu will be marketed by Ghana Tourism as a top tourist destination in the Sekondi-Takoradi enclave.
Our goal is to draw tourists who are eager to experience the rich cultural legacy by displaying the Wall of Fame, which includes well-known musicians whose music has had a lasting influence.
We anticipate that this project will increase local economic activity, bring in a lot of tourists, and raise traffic to the area. In addition to honouring Ghana’s musical heritage, we’re fostering the growth of regional companies by promoting Duawusu,” he stated.
