Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has urged newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritize the country’s interests above party politics.
Speaking at an orientation program in Accra on Saturday, January 11, 2025, Mr. Bagbin stressed the need for MPs to focus on Ghana’s pressing challenges and work tirelessly to resolve them.
“I encourage you to remain focused and committed to addressing the issues facing our nation. The country must come first, not political parties,” he advised. “This is a crucial principle. If you are not observant, take a moment to refocus.”
The Speaker underscored the long-term career benefits of adopting a nation-first approach, pointing out that politicians who prioritize Ghana’s development often achieve greater success.
“Leaders who put Ghana first tend to thrive politically compared to those who are overly partisan. Being excessively partisan may allow you to rise during one administration, but you risk losing relevance when the leadership changes,” Bagbin explained.
He called on the MPs to dedicate themselves to their parliamentary duties with the nation’s best interests at heart, ensuring sustainable progress for Ghana.
