Takoradi came alive on 28th December, 2024, as HeadyBrains Theatre House held audiences spellbound with their latest stage play, A Kind of Family-More Than a Play. Hosted at the ever busy shopping center, Takoradi Mall, the stage play seamlessly blended captivating storytelling, soul inspiring music, mesmerizing cultural performances, choreography, evocative spoken word, and live band music into an unforgettable evening of entertainment and reflection.
It was the first ever open air stage play by the production house that also came as a free event as a token of appreciation to our audiences for their love and support over the past six years.
Mr. Evans Apraku Boadi, Creative Director of HeadyBrains Theatre House marked a milestone with his 12th play in six years—a testament to his consistency and dedication to enriching Ghana’s theatre landscape.
Starting at 6:30 PM and concluding at 10:15 PM, A Kind of Family lived up to its tagline of being more than a play. The story delved into major themes of love, loyalty, betrayal, and the bonds that make us family—not just by blood but by choice and circumstance. As has become a feature of HeadyBrains, the drama never missed the opportunity to crack up the audiences who were often seen beaming with uncontrollable laughter.
Audiences were treated to a vibrant Ghanaian culture, with traditional dances and costumes that transported everyone to the heart of our heritage. The choreography was a masterstroke that blended modern and traditional moves in a way that captivated both young and old.
The live band was another highlight, bringing energy and soul to the production. The music amplified every emotion on stage. Meanwhile, the spoken word performances added a poetic depth, eliciting moments of quiet reflection amidst the drama.
The choice of venue, Takoradi Mall, added a modern and inclusive feel to the event that made it accessible to diverse audiences. Families, couples, and theatre enthusiasts from all over the Western Region and beyond gathered to witness the magic.
The success of this event is a reflection of Takoradi’s growing reputation as a hub for creative arts.
