Ghana U20 star Jerry Afriyie has refuted suggestions that financial gain influenced his decision to join Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah.
The 18-year-old forward completed a move from Ghanaian lower-tier side Thoughts FC to Al Qadsiah but was immediately loaned out to Spanish club CD Lugo for the remainder of the season.
Speaking to Sporty FM about his transfer, Afriyie dismissed claims that money was his primary motivation. “I’m too young to prioritise money,” he stated. “My goal is to reach the highest level. Many top clubs were interested in me, but I chose a destination where I can develop best.”
Afriyie arrived in Spain last week and has already begun training with Lugo. He could make his debut in their upcoming match against Athletic Bilbao B.
CD Lugo currently sits 14th in the Primera Federación standings as they continue their campaign in Spain’s third tier.
