President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
A statement from the Presidency, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, confirmed the appointment. It stated that the decision was made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State.
COP Yohuno brings four decades of experience to his new role and is expected to lead efforts in modernizing and transforming the Ghana Police Service. His extensive career in law enforcement has been marked by leadership in various capacities within the police force.
The appointment of COP Yohuno comes at a crucial time when security concerns and police reforms are high on the national agenda. His leadership will be pivotal in enhancing public confidence in the police service and improving security across the country.
The outgoing IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has served in the position since 2021 and has been credited with introducing various reforms in policing and crime-fighting strategies.
Ghanaians will be keenly watching how the new IGP navigates the challenges of law enforcement and security management in the country.
