Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club PLC has strongly condemned the recent acts of hooliganism and violence that marred the Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Nsoatre Park.
The unfortunate incident resulted in the tragic death of a Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter, affectionately known as “Pooley.”
In a press release titled “A Unified Effort Against Hooliganism,” the club described the incident as reprehensible and against the values of unity and entertainment that football represents. Hearts of Oak emphasized that violence and disorder tarnish the reputation of the sport and called for a renewed commitment to integrity and unity within the football community.
The club extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and honored Pooley’s contributions and passion for football, which will forever be remembered by the football fraternity.
As part of the statement, Accra Hearts of Oak called upon all stakeholders, including the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to unite in a comprehensive campaign aimed at eradicating hooliganism in Ghanaian football. The club highlighted the importance of education and awareness as critical tools in addressing this issue effectively.
