The Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah is optimistic that André Dede Ayew Morgan will lead the Black Stars to a fifth AFCON triumph.
Dede Ayew was appointed the team captain of the Black Stars by the head coach Kwesi Appiah with Kwadwo Asamoah to serve as the deputy whiles Asamoah Gyan has been assigned the general captain role in the team.
As the Black Stars determines to clinch its fifth AFCON trophy, the Sports Minister believes with Andre Ayew as the team captain, Ghana is assured the trophy.
According to the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, he witnessed the Swansea City midfielder in 2009 leading the Ghana U-20 team for World Cup triumph at the expense of Brazil in Egypt and believes with his team player attitude, Ayew is capable of leading the Black Stars for fifth AFCON glory in Egypt next month.
“After 37 years , I can confidently assure that, Ghana will win the trophy. I believe in Dede Ayew, as capable to lift the trophy because I saw him doing same in FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. He is a team player and I saw that in him during the 2009 World Cup”, Asiamah said during the President Akufo-Addo dinner with the Black Stars ahead of AFCON 2019.
The Black Stars will depart for the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, June 1, 2019 to begin a PRE-AFCON camping with a 29 man list. The team will engage South Africa and Namibia in friendlies before the squad will be prune down to 23 for the main tournament in Egypt.
