The Confederation of African Football has punished Senegalese winger Krepin Diatta for four matches, with two of those matches being postponed after some remarks he made during Senegal’s round of 16 loss to Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations.
After regulation time ended with both sides tied at 1-1, the round of 16 match concluded with a 5-4 penalty shootout loss for the Lions of Teranga.
Habib Diallo gave Senegal, the African champions, the lead early on, but Franck Kessie of Ivory Coast’s late penalty kick made it into a penalty shootout
Diatta voiced his displeasure with the officiating choices made during the game after it had concluded, pointing out that Senegal should have been awarded a penalty but it was not.
He stated, “You’ve killed us, you’re corrupt! Keep your African Cup. I’m sorry, but it’s ridiculous. I’m really sorry, but they’ve killed our competition there.”
Krepin Diatta has also been fined USD $16,329.88 by the Confederation Of African Football.
