The Black Stars of Ghana drew 2-2 with the Pharaohs of Egypt in their second game in Group B at the Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
The Black Stars of Ghana improved on their performance against Cape Verde when they locked horns with Egypt but it was not enough to get them the maximum three points.
The Black Stars of Ghana took the lead through a spectacular strike from Mohammed Kudus outside the 18yard box to give Ghana a 1-0 lead in added on time of the first half. The score remained the same until after recess.
After the first half, the Black Stars lost control as the Egyptians came back stronger in an attempt to score and win the game.
The game was brought level on the 69th minute as Egypt’s Marmoush scored shortly after the Black Stars lost possession in their own half.
The 1-1 scoreline did not last long as Ghana’s Kudus rose to the occasion again to regain the lead for Ghana on the 71st minute with Denis Odoi providing the assist.
Once again in a dramatic and unfortunate turn of event for Ghana, possession was lost to Egypt in Ghana’s half and the Egyptians capitalized on the fault to score on the 74th minute through Mostafa Mohammed to make the scoreline 2-2.
All attempts by both sides to score again and grab the maximum three points proved futile.
The 2-2 scoreline makes the situation dicey for Ghana as the team lies at the bottom of Group B with a point just as Mozambique. Cape Verde top the Group after their 2-1 victory over with 3 points. While Egypt also stay second with one point.
Ghana will have to defeat Mozambique to stand a chance of going past the group stage.
