Ghanaian International, Ernest Nuamah has apologized on behalf of himself and his Black Meteors teamates after their poor performance in the TotalEnergies African U-23 Cup of Nations.
Despite winning their opening match against Congo, Ghana was unable to advance to the following round of the U-23 African Cup of Nations competition, dashing their hopes of returning to the Olympic Games since Athens 2004.
Ghana was eliminated from the competition despite being just one victory away from moving on to the next round after giving up a first-half lead against Guinea in a 1-1 draw.
Nuamah was one of the players that was anticipated to shine in the competition but instead performed like a pale shadow of himself.
“I have returned to my base to work hard, strive, and grow. This break has been filled with unlocked dreams, lessons, and personal growth while on national duty.
“In accepting this growth path, I’ll take this opportunity to clear unfounded stories of choosing an uninvited All Star Game over Ghana & any one of us feeling bigger than our gifted U23 mates.
“I had issues over health concerns with my team after a long season & fatigue to join the U23 since the tournament was not on FIFA calendar explains why I had to leave after the 2nd game.

“No excuses but our performances as a group was below expectations but personally I could do better. As a group if we ever have the opportunity again, Ghana deserves better.
“I made some wrong decisions but I am grateful for this opportunity,” a statement from Nuamah read.
He accepts any criticism, but he rejects claims that he has was disrespectful.
