Ibrahim Zubairu a member of the Black Meteors, claims that the squad was entitled to bonuses and had the right to ask for payment.
Ibrahim Zubairu confirmed that the decision to request incentives came from all of the players and that it was made before the their last group stage game.
He said to 3sports “It belongs to us so we have to…and it wasn’t just one player. It was a collective decision to ask whether the bonuses they were promised before the Algeria game were ready”
Meanwhile the Minister of youth and sports Mustahpha Ussif had criticized Ghanaian players for having a financial motive when they go on national assignments in his remarks at the 29th ordinary congress.

“I find it difficult to comprehend and understand that the state will make all resources available by making sure that we want to give opportunities to our national teams, get them flight tickets for camping, accommodate them for a very long period,feed them, give them trial matches, when these players get to tournaments, the focus is now on bonuses.
It’s time for our players to value the national colors ,the flag our our country,the flag of our nation.” he stated.
Per rumours the meteors were demanding their bonuses even before their last game at the AFCON tournament in Morocco and they threatened to boycott the next game.
