The Vice President of Rugby Africa, Andrew Owor has heralded Ghana for a spectacular organization of the just ended Sevens Championship.
Ghana has received plaudits for extraordinarily hosting seven other African countries in the Rugby Africa Sevens pre world cup qualifiers at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi last weekend.
Aside hosting the event successfully, Ghana had its male and female national teams emerging victorious ahead of other seven countries after explosive performances in the championship.
Speaking to the media, the Vice President of Rugby Africa, Andrew Owor said he was impressed with the organization, adding that it was event which was keenly contested and very transparent.
He also expressed his excitement with regards to the level of competitiveness exhibited in the female category of the championship.[ads3]
“The final was a very tightly contested game , I the think teams deserve to be in the next stage . The quality of the women’s game also went up”, he said…
“We [Rugby Africa] impressed with the organization that Ghana Rugby put together, it is something that we looking to in the future and as well try everything possible to expand the tournament so that more teams will join. We are really happy with what is going on here [Paa Joe Stadium] and I am hoping to see what is happening here in the other regions. I will give Ghana 7 or 8 over ten because the did well in everything, the security was good, covid protocols observed. I’m very happy that Ghana government and the Ashanti Kingdom supported”, Mr. Awor added.[ads2]
The tournament ended with the Eagles (Ghana male team) impressively defeating Burkina Faso 17-15 in the final of the competition to emerge victorious while the Eaglets (Ghana female team) comfortably defeated Ivory Coast in the final to win the women’s division of the competition.
