ASZ recently recognized Accra Hearts of Oak SC, one of the biggest football teams in Africa, for their subpar play. In their prime, they were a formidable force to be stopped, known affectionately as the Continental Club Master.
Unfortunately, Accra Hearts of Oak has faded from the continent scene as of late, barely making it past the preliminary rounds. In the ASZ rankings, they are presently ranked ninth out of ten.
But for the previous seven years, less well-known and more established Ghanaian teams have assumed the role, such as Brekum Chelsea, Aduana, Dreams FC, and Medeama, just to mention a few.
The decline of Ghanaian traditional teams has had a significant impact on how well the different national teams have performed.
Teams no longer shudder in terror at the mention of Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, or even Ghana. It is now realistic that Ghana is having difficulty defeating teams such as Tanzania, Madagascar, Comoros, and others.
For Ghana Football, it serves as a reminder to make sure the team gets to where it needs to go. By now, Ghanaian clubs ought to have no trouble competing in Africa.
