The 2023 African Games gold medalists from Ghana are expected to get $3000 a piece as payment for their exceptional feats.
Ghana won nineteen gold medals in all in the 2023 edition of the African Games in Accra.
With eight gold medals in armwrestling, three in athletics, four in boxing, two in football, one in hockey, and one in weightlifting, the nation excelled in many sports.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports revealed prize packages in advance of the competition for athletes who would win medals at the 2023 African Games.
The ministry states that an athlete who wins a gold medal will receive $3000, silver medalists would receive $2000, and bronze medalists will receive $1000.
These numbers were revealed on Sunday, March 3, 2024, the day before the games at a press conference in Accra.
A per diem of GH₵1000 was also requested of the athletes for each of the 14 days they spent in camp leading up to the games.
At the 2023 African Games, Ghana won 69 medals in total, including 19 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze.
