The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has insisted that President Akufo-Addo still remains the president-elect in the just ended 2020 December polls.
This comes following video circulating on social media that the Electoral Commission has pronounced the flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama as the new president-elect.[ads2]
President Akufo-Addo who was the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was declared winner of the 2020 general elections after pulling 6,730,587 votes (51.3%) whiles competitor and flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama amassed 6,213,182 (47.3%).
Since the declaration of President Akufo-Addo as the winner of the just ended elections, the NDC and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama have refused to accept defeat, threatening to use every legitimate means to challenge the decision.[ads3]
The aftermath of these comes with nationwide demonstration by the NDC as a sign of expressing their dissatisfaction with the results of the elections.
Inspite of the demonstrations, the Electoral Commission has still maintained its grounds that President Akufo-Addo is the winner of the elections after amassing over 50.1% of the total votes as specified by the Constituency.[ads4]
But the latest video circulating on social media platforms suggest that the Electoral Commission has rescinded their decision and has confirmed John Dramani Mahama as rather the new president-elect and not President Akufo-Addo.
However, the Electoral Commission has rebuffed the reports, stating that the video is doctored and must be regarded as false and irrelevant.
