The Communication Officer of the leading opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has said President Akufo-Addo never had 50.1% in the just ended 2020 elections.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC is challenging the decision at the Supreme Court because President Akufo-Addo never had the 50.1% which is specified by the Constitution for a presidential aspirant to get before declared winner.[ads2]
Speaking on UTV, Sammy Gyamfi stated that the flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama want the Supreme Court order the Electoral Commission to re-run the elections.
He believes the figures from the Electoral Commission doesn’t add up which has enabled his party to challenge the legitimacy of the results.[ads3]
The NDC stormed the Supreme Court on Tuesday to file a petition against the results of the 2020 general elections which was announced by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
The NDC has refused to accept defeat after the Electoral Commission declared President Akufo-Addo and the NPP winners of the 2020 December polls.[ads4]
Despite pulling 6,213,182 votes as against President Akufo-Addo’s 6,730,587 as announced by the Electoral Commission, John Dramani Mahama believes the election was flawed and fictitious and threatened to use every legitimate means to challenge the decision.
This led to a several protests and demonstrations across the country by the NDC, leading to the arrest of 26 of the supporters who stormed the Electoral Commission headquarters in Accra without seeking permission.[ads5]
