Ampem Darkoa Ladies have successfully defended the Ghana Women’s Premier League title after beating Hasaacas Ladies in the final game played at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Kumasi on Friday, May 12, 2023.
The Techiman-based club defeated Hasaacas Ladies 5:3 on penalties to win the Women’s Premier League title for the second consecutive time.
The titanic game ended 1:1 after 120 minutes with penalties needed to separate the two teams.
Doris Boaduwaa shot Hasaacas Ladies to the lead in the 60th with a powerful header from a corner kick before Serwaa Amponsah Ophelia snatched the parity for Ampem Darkoa Ladies with just seven minutes to the end of the game.
Hasaacas Ladies dominated the entire 30 minutes of the extra time but failed to convert their chances.
In the penalty shootouts, Ampem Darkoa Ladies were able to convert all spot kick while Hasaacas Ladies missed one of their spot kicks to lose out on the title against their arch-rivals.
For winning the league title, Ampem Darkoa Ladies will go home with Gh¢50,000 as prize money and a ticket to represent Ghana at the WAFU Zone B championship where they will fight for the a slot at the CAF Women’s Champions League for the first time.
