- Ghana’s representatives in the CAF Women’s Champions League Ampem Darkoa Ladies, failed to book a place in the final after losing on penalties against Sporting Club Casablanca of Morocco in the semifinals at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pédro, Cote I’voire, last night.
The reigning Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League Champions have unequivocally being the surprise package at this year’s tournament after beating AS FAR the defending Champions in the group stage.
Comfort the scored the game’s first goal from the penalty spot but unfortunately scored an own goal to draw Casablanca level.However, Jennifer Owusuwaa scored from long range to restore the lead for Ampem Darkoa to make the score 2-1 in favour of the Ghanaians at halftime.Sporting Casablanca came into the second half strong and after mounting pressure and creating a series of chances,they were awarded a penalty which the converted to make the score 2-2.
Throughout the remainder of the game, both teams had numerous opportunities to score but were unable to do so, with Casablanca coming closest.The scoreline remained the same even after 30minutes of extra time, therefore the winner had to be declared through penalty shoot-outs.
Ampem Darkoa missed three of their spots one more than that of their Moroccan opposition as they suffered a 3-2 loss in the shootout.
