Former Black Stars striker and captain Asamoah Gyan has opened up on his relationship with his successor Andre Ayew.[ads2]
There has been a notion that there is a feud between the two footballers which has seriously crippled their relationship from being warm.
But according Gyan, Andre Ayew is not his close friend but has a good relationship with him even though they have not talked to each other since the last time he played for the Black Stars.
“Andre (Ayew) is not my friend but a teammate, I have my own friends that we vibe and all that. I must confess that I have a good relationship with him, we sometimes talk about boxing matches but he is not that my close friend. We have not talked to each other since my absence from the Black Stars”, Gyan said in an interview on Wontumi Radio/TV in Kumasi.[ads3]
Currently the all-time leading topscorer for Ghana, Asamoah Gyan indicated that he has not retired from international football but will need to play actively at club level before thinking of returning to the Black Stars.
“I have not retired from international football, I still feel that I can play for Ghana but I have to return to playing actively at the club level first before thinking about the Black Stars”, he added.
Asked whether he is ready to play for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Gyan who is currently 36-year old said that, “I will have to access myself first whether I’m ready for that challenge before accepting to play for the Black Stars. I have not decided on for now that but if I access myself and am ready, I will return to the national team and play again.”[ads4]
Asamoah Gyan last played for Ghana at the 2019 African Cup of Nations where the Black Stars was eliminated from the knockout stage of the tournament.
He has been unattached since leaving Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities in the 2020/21 league season.[ads5]
