Ghanaian international and Bournemouth’s sensational forward Antoine Semenyo has opened up about the pressure he endures while playing for the Senior National Team, the Black Stars.
The forward admitted that the expectations of Ghanaians are high when the Black Stars are competing in a tournament. During an interview with Premier League TV, he stated that Ghanaians know the Black Stars are a good team, so the fans expect them to win every match. He talked about playing for Ghana, saying,
“Pressure. It felt like pressure, to be honest. There’s a lot of pressure from the fans since we’ve got a good team, and we have to perform well. I agree with them; it is a very good team, so there is a lot of pressure associated with it. I think we needed to beat Uruguay to get through. Obviously, we lost. It was just frustrating.
You look into the stands; all the fans were frustrated, angry, cursing at everyone, and that’s just the country in a nutshell.” They just love football. Their week is determined on how well we do,” he added.
Semenyo was awarded player of the match during their dominant win over Everton.
