Asante Kotoko head coach, Mariano Barreto has said Kotoko is not a big club as people are made to believe.
According to the Portuguese gaffer, Asante Kotoko lack so many things that a big club should have like infrastructure, among others.[ads2]
Speaking with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, Mariano Barreto said, “I know Asante Kotoko fans won’t be happy with this but I must say it,” he expressed.

“Asante Kotoko is only a big name and not a not a big team because they lack so things a big team should be having.”[ads3]
“A big team should be having their own physiotherapy room, a strong youth team, philosophy, video room amongst other infrastructure.”[ads4]
Asante Kotoko finished the 2020/21 league season without a trophy as they got eliminated from the Ghana FA Cup in the quarterfinals to Berekum Chelsea and placed second on the league table, losing the title to bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak.
Coach Barreto was appointed in March 2021 on a one-and-a-half-year contract replacing Maxwell Konadu who was sacked in December 2020.[ads5]
