Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko forward, Abukari Gariba alias “Goal na mafi fe” who Kyfilla.com reported to have turned a beggar on the streets of Kumasi and Tamale finally received huge support.
A delegation of Asante Kotoko Legend Club, led by club legend Malik Jabir, over the weekend visited the former Black Stars goal poacher at his crooked residence in Tamale.
During the visitation, a discussion on providing a capital for the 80- year old to start a petty business was finalized as well as to get him an amount of monies to cater for his health, rent etc.
Thonny Oduro, the General Secretary of the Union noted that the Association’s main goal is to see to the welfare of all the retired Asante Kotoko players and give them a king-style treatment thus attending to Abukari’s lacerating situation.
He however continued that, most of Asante Kotoko ex-footballers in diaspora have contributed hugely to the Union’s aim of reaching out to needy retired footballers of the club thus supporting Abukari.
Meanwhile, some Asante Kotoko fans in the diaspora after hearing the report, have donated through their families and friends to the club’s all time topscorer.
Abukari Gariba, 80, was Asante Kotoko top scorer when they won the African Cup in 1971 and spent almost fourteen years at the club.
He was also Black Stars lead striker at the Munich 1972 Olympics but has turned a beggar on the streets of Kumasi and Tamale, begging for monies to survive after retiring from football.
