Asante Kotoko have officially announced the signing of Kwasi Asante, a seasoned 29-year-old left-back, on a one-and-a-half-year contract following the successful completion of his medical assessment.
Asante, who boasts significant experience from stints at Hafia Club in Guinea, Simba FC in Tanzania, and Mbabane Swallows in Eswatini, is expected to bolster the Porcupine Warriors’ defense with his versatility. Known for his adaptability, the Ghanaian can operate as a left-back, center-back, or even as a left winger, providing much-needed options for Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Speaking on Asante’s acquisition, Coach Ogum expressed his excitement, emphasizing the player’s ability to address the team’s defensive concerns. “Everyone knows we’ve been playing with just one recognizable left-back in Patrick Asiedu since October last year, and it was essential to strengthen that area. Kwasi brings both quality and versatility to our squad. His ability to play multiple positions adds depth to the team, and his wealth of experience will undoubtedly benefit us in key moments.”
For Asante, joining Kotoko represents a dream come true. “Joining Kotoko feels like a homecoming for me,” he said. “This is a club I’ve admired for years because of its history and passion. When the opportunity came, I didn’t have to think twice because I want to be part of something special here.”
He acknowledged the high expectations of the club’s passionate fanbase and vowed to meet them head-on. “I know the fans have high expectations, and I’m ready to give everything I’ve got to meet them. Competition for places is part of football, and I welcome it because it makes us all better. I’m here to work hard, contribute to the team, and help Kotoko achieve its goals this season.”
Kwasi Asante’s arrival is expected to strengthen Kotoko’s squad as they look to mount a strong challenge in the Ghana Premier League and other competitions.
