Kumasi Asante Kotoko have chosen Kumasi Sports Academy as affiliated Women’s Team for the 2023/24 season.
The move comes as a shock for many as the right candidate were expected to be Fabulous Ladies Football Club or Nana Afia Kobi Ampem Ladies Football Club.
Fabulous Ladies have been using the crest of Asante Kotoko since the inception of the Club in the 1990s and former Board Member, Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah Asare Owusu is the owner of NAKA Ladies.
The Porcupine Warriors, which have operated as a men’s team since their formation in August 1935 have now opted for Kumasi Sports Academy’s women’s team as affiliated club.
The affiliation is in response to FIFA’s directives to open the doors for women’s football. Women’s football has seen a significant rise for some time now, and it became remarkable during the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
