Newly appointed Technical Director and interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Karim Zito, has raised concerns about a sense of complacency among the players, a mindset he believes could derail the club’s ambitions.
Speaking during his official unveiling, Zito disclosed that he had already visited the team’s facilities and held initial interactions with the players. He noted that while the environment was welcoming, the prevailing atmosphere of comfort could potentially become a distraction.
“We met the players and identified a number of challenges,” he said. “When we visited the clubhouse, I observed just how comfortable they are. But sometimes, too much comfort makes people lose sight of their purpose in life.”
He added, “I can’t speak for Hearts of Oak, but I know Dreams FC. If comfort is not managed properly, it can be dangerous.”
Zito steps in following the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum and takes over a Kotoko side currently sitting fourth on the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League table six points adrift of leaders Bibiani Gold Stars with six matches left to play.
A former Kotoko player and coach, Zito returns with a strong pedigree, having guided Ghana’s U-20 team to victory at the 2021 AFCON tournament and most recently leading Dreams FC to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
