The 36-year-old victim was killed in her Sene Bokankye home in the Ashanti Region, as two suspects are being held by the police on suspicion of killing and raping her corpse.
Samuel Addai and Kelvin Gyamfi, the suspects, are said to have carried out the heinous deed after breaking into the deceased’s house with the intent of stealing.
The deceased was asleep when the two broke into her room in an incomplete building and used a cement block to smash her head twice.
They took turns raping her after they realized she was dead, then made off with her cell phone and GHC 42.00 in cash.
The incident is reported to have happened on February 8, 2024, when the deceased’s son, who had returned from school, raised the alarm and neighbors discovered her naked in a pool of blood in her room.
She had severe cuts on her left ear, blood oozing from her nostrils and ear, and a fractured skull near her forehead, along with semen around her genital organ, according to the police’s detailed examination of her body.
The suspects admitted to the police that they had entered the deceased’s home to smoke Indian hemp before going to her room to steal from her.
The two were apprehended after police investigations linked the stolen SIM card and phone to them.
Samuel Addai was apprehended at Atwima Bokankye on March 17, 2024, but his accomplice was able to get away and was apprehended two days later from his hiding place in Medie-Accra.
When the two appeared before the Akropong District Magistrate Court, they were charged with murder and conspiracy to murder on a provisional basis.
A DNA test will be performed on the accused using swaps taken from the deceased’s sexual organ, according to the prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Francis Opoku, who informed the court that investigations are still ongoing.
The body of the deceased was deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for autopsy and preservation. Unnatural sex, blunt force trauma, and a severe head injury were all mentioned in the autopsy report.
