The Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, Honorable Freda Prempeh has revealed Venue Officers for Cape Coast, tournament anthem and mascot of the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations will be launched next week.
Despite CAF contemplating on confirming Ghana as the host of the tournament, the LOC has doubled its effort to finish impending works stalling the progress. .
Ghana will be hosting seven other nations from November 17 to December 1 to settle on the three top nations to make it to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by France.
Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Mali and Algeria are expected in Ghana from the 17 of November for the tournament.
Speaking on Adom TV on Wednesday, September 5 the Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee said – “We will be unveiling at Cape Coast the Mascot of the tournament, Venue Officers of the Cape Coast Stadium and the Official Music Anthem for the tournament”.
The Member of Parliament for Tano North reassured Ghanaians that the right to hosting the tournament is in the grip of Ghana and CAF hasn’t written officially to strip Ghana off the right.
“There’s no truth in the rumors that Ghana is going to lose the right to host the 2018 AWCON, CAF hasn’t written officially to Ghana – so Ghana has the right to host the tournament and everything will be put in place to ensure that.
“The Accra Sports Stadium will be ready in two weeks, it has been the only challenge, but the LOC has been assured that the stadium will be ready in two weeks.
Cape Coast Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium are the two venues chosen to host the tournament. The El Wak Stadium, Robert Mensah Stadium and Nduom Sports Complex are among the venues chosen as training venues for the tournament.
