Solar Ayew claims André Dede Ayew will do fine asthe Black Stars captain because the Ayew family are born leaders hours after the West Ham United attacker was named Ghana’s captain for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
André Ayew was named as the Black Stars captain and will be deputized by Kwadwo Asamoah for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Egypt, Asamoah Gyan will have a new position as the General Captain according to a publication by the Ghana Football Association.
According to Solar Ayew, the uncle of André Ayew who also speaks for the Ayew family, his nephew will do alright and despite not a stellar performance at club level he expects the Black Stars team led by André Ayew to deliver the AFCON trophy.
“We(Ayew family) are born to be leaders and I know things will be alright for Dede Ayew and the entire Black Stars team in Egypt.
“I spoke to Dede Ayew after the announcement and I made him aware that the Captaincy comes with a lot of pressure but he should do something for his manager(Akwasi Appiah) and the Country as a whole.
“Though Dede Ayew’s performance at Club level this season is not 100% but I know Almighty Allah will show his mercies on him during this Ramadan season to deliver at the Afcon2019 in Egypt.
“I hope Dede Ayew tries to use his captaincy to unify everyone in the team and the Country as a whole because,it is our aim to win the Afcon2019 trophy in Egypt.
“This is not the time to celebrate over the Captaincy but we must be focused on the Afcon2019 Tournament and work hard towards it because winning the trophy is our target” – Solar Ayew told Ash FM.
The Black Stars are housed in Group F alongside holders Cameroon, Benin and Guinea.
The team will begin a training program at Dubai on June 1, 2019 before 6 of the 29 players will be whittled down for the final selection for the tournament.
Ghana will play Benin on June 26 before games against Cameroon and Guinea on June 29 and July 2.
