The Member of Parliament for Yendi in the Northern Region, Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama has said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the NPP presidential primaries with ease.
According to the lawmaker, the Vice President will emerge the winner of the NPP presidential primaries with over eight percent of total votes.
This comes after Dr Bawumia in a meeting with members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament on Tuesday, May 2 disclosed his intention to contest the NPP Presidential Primaries on November 4, 2023.
And Mr. Mahama who is the Chairman of Parliament’s Muslim Caucus believes Dr Bawumia is the right candidate to lead the NPP to victory in the 2024 general polls, having worked with President Akufo-Addo as the Vice President for the past seven years.
“Dr Bawumia will win [the presidential primaries] with over 80 percent of the votes”, Mr Aliu Mahama told Citi FM.
He indicated that majority of the NPP MPs are rooting for Dr Bawumia to become the flagbearer of the party ahead of nine other candidates including three-time runner Alan Kyeremanten and Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong.
“As for me and the majority of the Majority MPs, we are rooting for the Vice President, and it is a fact, and we are bold enough to say that we want Mahamudu Bawumia to take us to the promised land and also unite the party after the elections.
“Although we are yet to meet the other presidential hopefuls, it was clear during our meeting with the Vice President that everybody in the room wants Dr. Bawumia, and we are not saying that everyone wants him, but at least, over 100 MPs want him”, he added.
