Actor LilWin has accused actress Martha Ankomah of disrespecting Kumawood movies during an interview in 2017 and 2023.
The actor took particular offense at some `distasteful` comments Ankomah had made in the past few years about `Kumawood` films.
In interviews with Hitz FM in 2017 and Accra FM in 2023, Martha initially downplayed the plots of contemporary Kumawood films, comparing them to the Agya Koo period because he thought the genre served as a platform for the portrayal of witchcraft. The actress declared,
“I love their storylines and they used to have really good movies like Kumasi Yonkuo, but of late, most of their movies portray witchcraft and that does not motivate me to shoot with them.”
However, Martha Ankomah’s comments became relevant when LilWin was criticizing Dr. Likee’s camp because one of his actresses had defected to Akabenezer’s stable.
The actress Mimi, who was previously mentioned, has been criticizing Lil Win in interviews. In response, LilWin has attacked Martha Ankomah and anyone else who has ever downplayed his efforts.
During the interview, Lil Win harshly criticized Martha Ankomah, stating that he could not comprehend how a company the size of GTP could select the actress to be an ambassador instead of Mcbrown, Mercy Asiedu, and other candidates.
While celebrities like Pawpaw, Aki, and Nigerian veteran actress Patience Ozorkor travel to Kumasi to shoot movies, Lil Win added that Van Vicker and Roselyn Ngissah do not even go as far as Martha does to minimize Kumawood productions. He said,
Martha, those who are richer than you are rather humble and respect themselves a lot. Do you honestly call yourself a star? Who knows you? What do you have?
“I have no idea why GTP chose Martha Ankomah to represent their brand instead of Mercy Asiedu, McBrown, and the rest.
The likes of Van Vicker, Roselyn Ngissah and co, do not do these things. They even work with us. They shoot Kumawood movies. I’m still amazed that you made such statements, were you drunk?”
Patience Ozorkwor came to Kumasi to shoot a movie. Aki and Pawpaw, Mr. Ibu and the rest came down to shoot a movie here. But for people like you, who call yourselves refined actors; how many times do these Nigerians come to Ghana to shoot movies? They are the ones who rather send for you guys.”
Her fans will not be pleased about this altercation because Martha Ankomah has not been working in the Ghanaian film industry lately.
