After Christmas Day, Ghana observes Boxing Day as a public holiday on December 26. Since Ghana was a British colony until gaining independence in 1957, the holiday has British roots.
In the past, it was the day when the rich would package presents to give to the underprivileged and their servants. “Boxing Day” gets its name from this custom of presenting “Christmas boxes.”
Customs: Boxing Day is a day to carry on the Christmas festivities in Ghana. It is nevertheless a day for rest and socialising even though it is not observed with the same ceremonies as in some other nations.
Despite Ghana’s lack of distinctive cultural customs, Boxing Day serves as a day to engage in sporting activities particularly boxing but per history, boxing day has nothing to do with the boxing ring.
