The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi has advised Management of Asante Kotoko to maintained head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor.
There has been wrangling as to whether Akonnor should stay or fired after the club’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
But according to the former head of the Biochemistry Department of KNUST’s College of Science, Akonnor must be maintained because he did massively well with the team during the CAF Confederation Cup even though they blew away chances of making it to the quarter-final stage.
” I will never support the idea of sacking C. K. Akunnor because he did well as a coach of Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup”, he told Alpha Radio.
” You can even see his signature on the team and it was possessive football .
” I will advise the management to give him time and support him in all aspects for him to take the club to it pedigree and beef up the team in going forward.
” It will be more harm than good if Asante Kokoto part ways with C. K. Akonnor.
He however disclosed that, he was astonished to see Asante Kotoko making it to the group stages of the competition for the first time since 2008 as football activities in the country is being normalized.
” Asante Kotoko did very well in the CAF Confederation Cup and I was totally shocked to see them entering into the group stages of the competition.
” They raised the flag of Ghana higher in the competition and the players as well as the technical bench need applause for a good work done.
” There was a time I was asking myself if Asante Kotoko were playing because there was no competition or league in the country but the team fought hard and is their best results for the past 10 years.
