A suspected case of food poisoning has sent over thirty students from the Ajumako-Afransi Technical and Vocational Institute in the Central Region to the hospital.
According to reports, the students were brought right away to the Ajumako Baah Salvation Army Polyclinic after experiencing upset stomachs following a meal.
The incident happened on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, after lunchtime stew and waakye consumption.
Some of the impacted students are being treated at the Ajumako District Government Hospital, while others are receiving care at the Ajumako Baah Salvation Army Polyclinic.
In an interview, physician assistant Daniel Agyeakpor said that the majority of students are in stable condition and that the cause of their stomach aches is being determined by test results.
The Salvation Army Polyclinic administrator has requested government assistance in resolving the matter. Authorities from the school have not yet provided a statement on the issue.
Following reports of vomiting and diarrhea, students began trooping into a facility during the night. As of now, most of them, even all of them, have been stabilized, but we don’t know the root cause.
As a result, we are unable to determine the cause of whatever is being presented to them at this time while we wait for the lab results. I can’t tell because I’m not at the school with them. I’m dealing with the conditions they’ve presented with their symptoms.
Without conducting appropriate research, we are unable to make a diagnosis or draw conclusions. So, I cannot conclude on the cause now. We are conducting investigations, that is all. However, as I previously mentioned, they began to arrive overnight. Normally, only a small number of them arrive during the day.”
