Accra Hearts of Oak former skipper Amankwah Mireku has finally confessed that Charles Taylor was a thorn in the flesh of the defenders of his outfit during the 2005 CAF Confederation Cup finals.
Amankwah Mireku who captained the Phobians to clinch their first ever CAF Confederation Cup ultimate at the expense of arch rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi revealed to Sekondi based Radio Silver during an interview which was in relation to the Confederation Cup final.
According to Mireku, Charles Taylor was a delight to watch during the game and was very difficult to handle where he eventually had the opener in Kumasi for Kotoko before Adjah Tetteh could get the equalizer.
” Charles Taylor was a delight to watch and was a tormentor for the defenders of Hearts of Oak”, he said.
” He’s such a great footballer Ghana has ever produced and caused us a headache during the final even though we won the cup.
Even though Hearts of Oak won the ultimate via 8:7 on penalty shootouts, Amankwah Mireku who missed his kick during the penalty shootouts believes January 9, 2005 is a day he will never forget in his life as a former footballer and captain for the Rainbow giant.
” It’s a day I will never forget in my life because I captained the team on the day and after missing my penalty kick, I thought it was all over but became happy after winning the trophy.
