Former Hearts of Oak defender, Charles Vardis has been reported dead after a short illness.
Popularly referred to as ‘Mark Fish’, the central defender is said to have died in the early hours of Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Tema General Hospital after battling short ailment.[ads2]
Vardis is one of the few Ghanaian footballers who hanged their boots early to venture into other businesses.
He played for Hearts of Oak between 2004 to 2009 before traveling abroad to continue his career.
He was part of the Hearts of Oak squad that clinched the Ghana Premier league in the 2006/7 season under coach Mitko Kostadinov Dobrev.[ads3]
He also played for Israeli club Maccabi Herzliya FC on loan in 2008.
Vardis joined Hearts of Oak from Real Sportive and later to New Edubiase United before retiring from the game.
He died at the age of 35.[ads5]
