A pastor of Winner Chapel Church in Omuo, Ekiti, named Enoch Gbinyiam, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison on a single count of rape of a minor on Thursday by the High Court of Ekiti State, presided over by Justice O.I.O. Ogunyemi. The court was convened in Ado, Ekiti.
According to reports, the survivor—who happens to be the daughter of a church member—was sexually assaulted by the pastor during one of her visits to the vicarage.
Usually, the innocent rape survivor visited the mission house to assist the pastor’s wife with household chores and to tutor and assist his young children with their schoolwork.
During one of her stays at the vicarage, the pastor presented her with a tranquilizer bottle of Fanta. Following her consumption of the Fanta, the poor girl fell asleep and woke up with her vagina heavily bleeding.
The guilty party was taken into custody and charged in court. Section 2 of the Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019 was cited as the reason for his charges of rape.
Julius Ajibare, the learned Director of Public Prosecutions representing Ekiti State, called four witnesses and produced two exhibits to bolster his case.
The convict who spoke through his counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke, gave evidence in his defense and called one other witness.
As a result of the prosecution’s unquestionable proof of the defendant’s rape, the Honorable Court rendered a wise decision.
Thus, the defendant was found guilty by the judge and given a life sentence in prison.
