The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has implored graduate to capitalize on the entrepreneurship knowledge gained in school and create their own jobs.
According to the Minister, this has become necessary because the government payroll is full and can’t be adding new employment figures.[ads2]
Speaking at the University of Professional Studies 2021 graduation in Accra, Mr. Ofori-Atta insisted that the need has come for various graduate to venture into their own businesses rather than dreaming of being unrolled on the government payroll without making good use of the entrepreneurship knowledge gained in school.
He explained that this has become necessary because government spend most of its revenue on remuneration, making its payroll unsustainable.[ads3]
The future for you in regard to jobs is the most important thing for you at this stage, and we have gone through a period when most people look for a job from government or state institutions, but that payroll is full. I can tell you that because we are spending about 60 percent of our revenue on remunerating some 650,000 people, and that is not sustainable,” he stated.[ads5]
