Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has equalled Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan’s record as the player to score in nine consecutive international tournaments.
Ronaldo reached that height with the legendary Asamoah Gyan in world football after scoring a brace in Portugal’s 3:0 victory against Hungary in the ongoing 2020 European Championship in Budapest.[ads2]
Before that game, the Juventus forward has scored in the 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 European Championships as well as in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cup tournaments.
Many bigheads in the game have heralded Asamoah Gyan for that record despite last playing for the Ghana senior national team in 2019.[ads3]
Gyan was the first player to achieved the mark, an achievement he made in 2017 when he scored in the African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The former Sunderland FC goal poacher now playing for Ghana Premier League outfit Legon Cities FC achieved the mark, scoring in the 2006, 2010 and 2004 World Cup tournaments as well as the 2008, 2012, 2013,2015 and 2017 African Cup of Nations tournaments.[ads4]
Asamoah Gyan has currently made 109 appearances for Ghana, leading the country’s all-time scorers chart with 51 goals whilst Cristiano Ronaldo has capped 176 times for Portugal, scoring 106 goals and the country’s all-time topscorer.[ads5]
