The date and venue for the final funeral rites of former president Jerry John Rawlings has been announced.
According to the family of the late president, the funeral rites will be held on December 23, 2020 at the Independence Square in Accra.[ads2]
This was contained in a statement from the family signed by Ambassador James Victor Gbeho who is the head of the funeral planning committee.
The statement states that, the decision has been taken by the family after consultation with the government of Ghana.[ads3]
Mr. Rawlings died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on November 12, 2020 after a short illness.
The founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) left behind a wife Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings who is also the founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and four children namely; Zenator, Kimathi, Yaa Asantewaa and Anima Rawlings.[ads5]
