The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Honorable Perry Curtis Okudzeto has on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 launched the YouthConnkt Ghana.
The launching exercise held at the University of Ghana in Legon of the Greater Accra region was organized by the National Youth Authority in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Speaking at the launching ceremony on behalf of the sector minister, Honorable Perry Okudzeto explained that, “the YouthConnekt is an initiative being scaled up by the United Nations Development Programme in Africa after a successful implementation in Rwanda. The initiative seeks to create multiple opportunities for the youth to participate meaningfully in the socio-economic and political development of their countries.”
The YouthConnekt is a physical and virtual platform based on the interest of the Ghanaian youth and will link-up the various youth innovations and creatively in areas such as ICT, Entrepreneurship, Agri-Business, Civic Engagement among several others.
The deployment of YouthConnekt Ghana is as a result of collaborations between the National Youth Authority and the United Nations Development Programme.
The Deputy Sports Minister also stated that, “is my hope that the success of YouthConnekt in Ghana will help reduce unemployment among the youth, promote active citizenship, inspire and prepare the youth to be positive change makers.”
In last year the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Youth Authority trained about 2400 young people in online digital marketing and entrepreneurship across the country.
Each trainee was given a tablet with data credit as a start-up tool. As a result of the training, some young people have set up or improved their own businesses particularly in food processing and fashion across the country.
Hon. Perry Okudzeto concluded that, he is excited to see some of the beneficiaries mount various exhibition boots at the launch of YouthConnekt Ghana by the National Youth Authority and the United Nations Development Programme at the University of Ghana.
