Eden Hazard, a former player for Chelsea, believes Mauricio Pochettino did a fantastic job leading the Blues, and he has quietly floated the idea of having a former teammate take over as manager.
The Argentine manager left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent last week, despite leading the Blues back into Europe with a sixth-place result, after just one season in charge.
Hazard has added yet another nemesis to the list of candidates being evaluated for the Chelsea manager position, and this person is currently being sought after.
After hearing of Pochettino’s departure from Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea hero voiced his dissatisfaction, claiming the manager had done a fantastic job leading the team to both an FA Cup semifinal and a Carabao Cup final in his ten months in charge.
Hazard told talkSPORT the following when asked about his thoughts on Pochettino’s departure:
‘I was a bit sad, to be fair.
‘I think he did a great job. I know people want Chelsea to be in the top four, but it’s just a season of transition.
He’s a great manager, and I wish him good luck. Let’s see who is going to be there in the future.’
Hazard responded as follows when asked if De Zerbi would make a suitable successor and who he would like to see take over:
‘Maybe. ‘I have my friend also in Como [winks], he can be the first manager.’
Hazard is referring to Cesc Fabregas, the caretaker boss of Como and a former Chelsea player. Before taking over as temporary manager for five matches after the previous campaign, Fabregas was a Como player.
He has now supported Osian Roberts in leading the team to Serie A promotion. The former Spanish midfielder is pursuing a career in management, and his early successes in leading Italian minnows to the top division of Italian football have been impressive.
