The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for calm at Ejura in the Ashanti Region where there is currently an unease tension.
This comes following the killing and causing of severe injuries by some security personnel to residents in the town who were protesting following the murder of one of them.[ads2]
According to reports, about three of the protestors were shot dead with several injured when they clashed with the security personnel.
Reacting to the developments, the NDC has called for peace in the town, urging the security personnel to be measured in the way and manner in which they handle citizens who are exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to demonstrate to protect the lives of innocent citizens.[ads3]

NDC STATEMENT ON THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CITIZENS AT EJURA, ASHANTI REGION.
The National Democratic Congress has learnt with great sadness and shock, news from Ejura in the Ashanti Region, the killing and the causing of serious injuries to citizens who were protesting the murder of another citizen of the town yesterday.
Already there are reports of at least three persons dead and six hospitalized having sustained serious injuries.
In view of the fluid security situation in Ejura, the National Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, and the General Secretary, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, who are currently participating in a workshop at Ada organized by the National Peace Council with sponsorship by the UNDP and the Commonwealth Secretariat, have left Ada and are proceeding back to Accra to take charge of developments.
In the interim, the NDC has appealed for calm in Ejura and call on the security agencies to be measured in the way and manner in which they handle citizens who are exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to demonstrate to protect the lives of innocent citizens.
