Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko forward, Ben Acheampong has been jailed for three years in Egypt with hard labour, Kyfilla.com has learnt.
According to report in the media, the Ghanaian striker was also fined a sum of $570 over his switch to Egyptian Premier League outfit Zamalek two years ago.
The forward was sentenced to three years imprisonment and was also ordered to pay in addition $23,000 for not fulfilling a contractual terms with his former agent Wael Al-Kharbtawi.
It’s reported that, Wael Kharbtawi filled a lawsuit against the Ghanaian, two months ago, accusing him of not fulfilling a payment of $23,000 which was a commission for the agent, an amount both parties agreed on.
Kharbtawi prompted the player who was reluctant of paying the agreed amount after moving to Zamalek, leading to his actions of seeking for court’s intervention.
The judgement, however, was passed in the absence of the player who was reported of refusing to answer several court summons due to where he currently plays his professional football (Qatar).
Kharbatawi is expected to send a copy of the verdict to the player’s embassy and send a copy to the Egyptian Embassy in Qatar, where he joined a Qatari club recently.
Acheampong switched camp to Qatar from Egyptian top-flight side Zamalek due to lack of regular playing time but insists inconsistent in payment caused his departure.
