Government has griped the school fees of every final year day students in our senior high schools across the nation as part of the free SHS policy.
This policy originally covered the pupils who entered senior high school in 2017 and 2018. A notice by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to all Regional Directors of Education advice the regional Directors to treat the directive with urgency.

This notice was signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Education service – Proffessor Kwesi Opoku Amankwa. With the Free SHS Package, the fees for form one and Two students, both day and boarding, as well as day student in form three have been amused by the government.
“Any fees already paid by Student in surplus of the approved fees for the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year should be given to the students for the second semester”, the notice added.
This free SHS policy was introduced by The Akufo-Addo government in September 2017. The policy had been a major campaign policy to the New Patriotic Party previously to the election of his excellency Akufo-Addo in 2016.
This policy is to make secondary education in Ghana absolutely free hence greatly enlarging enrollment.
In 2018, owing to the infrastructure restriction brought on by this policy,the government introduced double track system as part of the free SHS policy.
