Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko General Manger Samuel Opoku Nti has charged the government to invest more in sports to make it more attractive to the youth.
According to the former Black Stars forward, the government should start investing in sports from the basic, senior high schools and the tertiary level to enable the youth to take it as a career to develop them to the highest level.
Opoku Nti added that the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah invested much in sports which enabled Ghana to become one of the best team across the globe and therefore the current government should replicate such.
He however acknowledged Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah for introducing new players to the team during the 2019 AFCON qualifiers against Kenya.
Opoku Nti also continued that the government should also help in growing colt football in the country even though there is no money in the system
“As for the colt football, we should go back and help it to grow. First individual can do alone but for now, it will be very difficult for individual to do colt football alone.
“Money is not in the system, if the government did not help to revive colt football. We need infrastructures and government must also interest in the game, Ghana is not like European whereby clubs have their own infrastructures.
“Even FIFA has made it that, when you sell a player, 5% of the money have to go to the player’s colt club”, he said.
