Ghanaian winger, Frank Acheampong is now eligible for selection by Shenzhen FC after completing the entirety of a four-game suspension imposed by the Chinese Football Association.
On July 28, during a league match against Henan FC, Acheampong was given a red card in the 33rd minute for punching the opposing team’s Gu Cao. The gifted winger alleged that the latter had treated him racially.
Recent video footage shows the former Black Stars winger punching Chinese defender Gu Cao, knocking him to the ground during a match between Shenzhen FC and Henan FC.
The Chinese FA fined him 40,000 yuan (US$5,580), and suspended the Ghanaian winger after considering the situation.
Prior to this incident throughout a professional career spanning over 350 matches, Acheampong had never before been sent off.
The Chinese FA also imposed a 20,000 yuan fine and a two-match suspension on Gu, a center-back who played for Henan, “for inciting Acheampong with insults.” Gu was also suspended for two games.
Shenzhen have lost their last six games and stayed winless without the Ghanaian winger.
The 29-year-old has missed his team’s last five games, but on September 16th, in Round 25 of the 2023 Chinese Super League, he might make his first appearance against Meizhou Hakka.
