Akufo-Addo, in a speech delivered during the weekend at the graduation ceremony of UDS – WA Campus said “We are going to enact a legislation to make access to SHS compulsory for every school going child. Mr. Daniel Fenyi, a respected educational analyst, has congratulated Akufo- Addo for making efforts to legislate or make a law that will protect the free SHS policy. He described the president as having a clean heart for students.
Mr. Daniel Fenyi however indicated that making a law to protect free SHS is not enough guarantee that the policy can be sustained since constitutions can be amended to suit changing circumstances.
Mr. Daniel Fenyi advised that H.E. Akufo-Addo should take a step further to present a policy document on free SHS and show the source of funding for the policy so that successive governments can peacefully continue fee SHS programme.
The educationist again advised that adequate facilities like stocking computer labs, science labs and teachers’ conditions of service must be considered a priority in these educational reforms.
