French Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Anne Sophie Ave unexpectedly visited the Sports Minister Honorable Isaac Asiamah at his office today February 7, 2019.
The visitation which was centered around the development of sports to the youth in Ghana lasted almost an hour.
Her Excellency Ave in her submission emphasized on the merits of volunteerism, highlighting the importance of African players specifically Ghanaians who plied their trades at French clubs.
She however disclosed that the Embassy is under taking a project where volunteers will be sent to the country to teach individuals and organizations the basics in French language.
She then invited the Hon. Asiamah for a sports competition scheduled for 10th May, 2019 which includes six schools from Ghana between the ages of 8-12years in different sporting disciplines.
The Sports Minister in his welcome remarks expressed his profound gratitude to Her Excellency Ave and her team for what he described as an august visit.
He stated that, the ministry fully supports the project and would contribute its quota to make it a success adding that as part of its mandate, it strives to use sports as a tool for job creation and crime prevention as well as developing young talents.
He noted that his Ministry is partnering with the Ministry of Education and other key stakeholders towards the revival of school sports since the project emphasizes on school sports. He added that a Committee has been inaugurated to revive school sports and it is spearheaded by his deputy, Hon. Perry Okudzeto to ensure that it comes into fruition as it falls part of his Government’s mandate.
The Minister called on the French government through the Ambassador to support school sports since it is an avenue for producing an avalanche of sports men and women.
He finally applauded the French Government for initiating the volunteerism project and called on them to support school sports.
