The GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area as part of its 40th Anniversary recently donated a variety of essential items to the Teshie Orphanage in Camp Two (2), Accra, and a scholarship scheme for brilliant ones, bringing joy and relief to the children.
The Association is celebrating this milestone to help increase the visibility of its mission, allowing it to highlight the history in tradition of advocacy, while at the same time giving the Association the chance to articulate the vision for the future.
The donation, which included Educational materials, Rice, Drinking water, Assorted drinks, Sanitary pads, Student bunk beds and Mattresses, is part of the association’s broader initiative to give back to communities both in the United States and Ghana.
Mr. Gilbert Quarshie, Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Davies, Mr. Samuel Nii Amartey, Mrs. Grace Ankrah, Mr. Samuel Sir Dondee Lamptey, Minister Edmund Lamptey, Ms. Jessica Mills-Odai, Ms. Pascaline Lamptey and Ms. Irene Lamptey presented the items.
The items were received by Mr. Oded Tawiah Mensah on behalf of the management and staff of the Teshie Orphanage Home during a short ceremony at their premises. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area team for the kind gesture and also prayed that the good Lord continues to bless the work of the Association.
Teshie Orphanage Home is one of the oldest orphanages on the GaDangme land and had been in existence about thirty years when Mr. Colonel Nick Sowatey and Mrs. Janet Parker took the burden upon themselves to establish a home for rejected and abandoned children from early stages within their residence, especially GaDangme people.
The vision of the home is to shelter needy and deprived children who largely are found within the Teshie town and its outskirts and provide them with the needed parental guidance towards development.
The Home has over the years seen some of the children who had passed through the center to higher levels in education and has some of them playing highly respected roles in the nation.
Orphanages are institutions that provide shelter, food, and education to children who have lost their parents or whose families cannot provide for them. Unfortunately, many such nonprofit organizations lack sufficient funding to meet the needs of the children they serve. This is where donations come in.
According to the GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area Chairwoman Rowina Naa Odarkai Lamptey Moses, millions of children around the world are orphaned and living in poverty, unable to access essentials like food and education. But as followers of Jesus, we are called to serve these vulnerable little ones.
Orphanages are a great way to help children who can’t return home due to financial or personal issues. They give the kids a stable place with people that watch over them and help them grow into happy, healthy adults.
Orphanages are also very expensive to operate. The staff must be paid, utilities must be covered, and food needs to be bought for the kids on a regular basis. It’s a lot for the organization to take on financially, which is why the Association will be having fundraising drives to support orphanages.
Thus, being driven by our mission to inspire highly balanced and motivated individuals, with a conscious effort of their responsibility towards the society, we decided not only to present donations to the home but also empower them.
It is devastating when a child loses a parent, whether by death, separation or abandonment. The loss can cause significant social, emotional and academic challenges that can last a lifetime. With the world’s challenges today, the number of orphans is increasing fast and is expected to keep rising in low-income countries.
Donating to orphanages is an important way to support children in need around the world. The Association contribution will make a significant difference in their lives, providing them with basic necessities like food and education.
Chairwoman Rowina Naa Odarkai Lamptey Moses emphasized that, the basic needs donation like the rice and sachet water will give the orphans access to food and other basic needs of life and will guarantee that they live in a cozy and secure atmosphere.
Education donations will assist in giving the orphans access to education, which could charge their lives. Orphans can benefit from education by gaining knowledge and skills that will improve their employment prospects and their future.
Medical care like the sanitary pad’s donation will assist in protecting the orphans against infections, which is necessary for their health and well-being. This will lower their risk of illness and disease to facilitate daily activities.
One of the Association’s notable contributions in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area is the annual Homowo Festival celebration, which brings together GaDangme people to celebrate their heritage, share traditional foods, and engage in cultural performances. This festival not only strengthens community bonds but also educates younger generations about their rich cultural legacy.
The Association has a rich history of cultural preservation and community service. Established to maintain and promote the cultural heritage of the GaDangme people, the association has been a cornerstone for GaDangme individuals residing in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Through various cultural, civic, and social activities, the association fosters unity and a sense of belonging among its members.
The GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area continues to be a beacon of hope and support for the GaDangme community, embodying the values of generosity, unity, and cultural pride.
